About Our Capital Campaign
show us some love
We are raising $6 Million to Buy and Renovate Our New Home for Struggle of Love Foundation.
Struggle of Love Foundation is raising $6 million for a new home where we can spread our love even further. The new LOVE Center in Denver’s Montbello neighborhood will give our 20-year-old BIPOC-owned organization much-needed room to grow, thrive, and serve.
the love center
For over 20 years, the Struggle of Love Foundation has envisioned a space where programs can grow to their full potential and services are easily accessed by the community. The opportunity to realize this vision is possible in our new LOVE Center, located in Denver’s Montbello neighborhood. The impact of this building will be transformative for the organization and community, allowing SOLF to increase the capacity of current programs, bring community resources together under one roof, and lay the foundation to plan for future growth and lasting impact.
Development Timeline
This building will be more than just a structure; it will be a beacon of hope and opportunity. By investing in this building, you’re helping us create a legacy that will benefit countless lives for years to come.

Our Story
Seeing within themselves a shared vision for the world, LaKeshia and Joel Hodge dedicated their lives to community care by creating the Struggle of Love Foundation over 20 years ago. Without funding, LaKeshia and Joel started the Struggle of Love Foundation in their garage in 2000. “Everything came from our own pockets,” LaKeshia explains. “We had only a handful of resources we could offer to people, but we continued to identify big gaps in the needs of the community. We wanted to evolve and expand to meet those needs.” In 2008, after countless self-directed hours of research and planning at their local public library, SOLF became a fully registered 501c3.
vision
The four cornerstone outreach events that SOLF launched two decades ago continue to thrive today: the Brains Over Bullets backpack giveaway, the Need to Feed Thanksgiving food drive, the holiday toy drive, and the Reach 4 Peace picnic that honors fathers who are making a meaningful difference in their families and communities. These four key initiatives have evolved into a daily commitment to change, with a diverse range of programs spanning youth athletics, mental health services, workforce training, and beyond. SOLF’s mission has expanded, but its dedication to uplifting and empowering the community remains as strong as ever.
action
“LaKeshia and I have shaped our life around our community,” says Joel. “We’ve continued to ask ourselves how we can take the things that we've utilized to better our position in life and let the community know that these stepping stones are available to them too.” The new LOVE Center is the next step in SOLF’s journey, and a team of internal leaders and external nonprofit and civic partners are ready to take the next step toward making the vibrant, multi-purpose space a reality.
